“ILL-Legitimate”

Ill is a verb – to ill. This is for those that ill legitimately.

We are ILL-Legitimate. Band of Brothers. Musicians and Sword Style Lyricists. Stitched widda Hyphen. Our goal is beyond self-mastery or a mastery of the martial-arts and its elements; it is essentially a philosophy of existence focused on mental and spiritual growth, executed musically and in the streets in what we feel is the purest form possible… raw poetry delivered with force over timeless, robust beats.

We all love music from all genres, all times and cultures, and this sort of universal exposure to music has influenced our sound heavily. Our belief is that hip-hop is like a kind of folk music. It is the kind that focuses on more than just traditions and customs, but stays current, so as to tell also of the present state of the people in the voice and sounds of modern times. It is necessary then, for this to be possible, that there be an emphasis on sincerity and truth.

For now, the truth is underground. We keep an open mind so as to find and realize our own, but mobilize it strategically, through our means, as a war of critical action; with the revolution taking place inside the mind. Like-minded in our quest for the bettering of humanity, we move together in different formats, connecting information pipelines overseas for us to learn more about one another, share stories, telling and listening and so connect each other.

While this crew originated on the West Coast of Canada and so expresses the sounds and vibes of the streets and neighbourhoods of Vancouver; it’s style and sound, granted the fact that everyone here originates from some place else in the world, is very universal. For this reason, ill-legitimate embraces members spanning across the globe from Canada to Europe to Australia, to uptake this sign… this pledge to progress with integrity…to ill…legitimately.
